Labrador Retriever Dogs Diet
What brand of dog food is best?

I have a just turned two years old, bred Labrador Retriever and I'm trying to figure out what type of food to feed him. I started him on Eukanuba, but he seemed well. So I recently switched to IAMS, but does not seem to like that. My veterinarian told me recently that is lightweight, weighing about 62 pounds, but should be closer to 70 + lbs. He said to try it again feed puppies or switch to a brand that has an "active" foods. Nutro is good I hear and I know they have a "high energy" type of food, but what about Science Diet? I do not want to eat anything like Kibbles and Bits, "I want healthy, good food for him. Any suggestions? Thank you. There is no "best" dog food. The best food for your dog's dog food is high quality of your dog does best on. Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro and Science Diet are all low quality food. Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn, by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of unpleasant things. A lot of food companies to pets are perfectly happy to dump cheap debris and things that are unsafe for human consumption (processing plant food for humans) in their food. Will it kill your dog? There has to be nutritionally complete and safe, even for marketing. Is it healthy? Not for long. Corn is a low quality ingredient I never want to see in your pet food. Corn and low quality grains are two of the biggest culprits when it comes to food allergies in our pets. Fortunately, There are some excellent dog foods being made these days that are organic, human quality ingredients rather than trash not fit for human consumption. Examples low-quality food to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be the end of the low, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Pedigree, Kibbles n 'Bits, Beneful, Ol'Roy. Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae All Life Stages, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, variety of the nature of the prairies, the logic of nature, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timberwolf organics. Although the high quality foods are more expensive, you'll be what you're paying. Less filler material and highest quality ingredients means more concentrated nutrients … This means usually need to feed far less of high quality food that you are of low quality. Which also means less poop! Seriously on a budget? Two of the most affordable of the highest quality of food would be Chicken Soup for the soul of the dog lover and Canidae All Life Stages. Before following the recommendation Food from your veterinarian, keep in mind that the veterinarians GET / very / little nutritional training during their schooling. Besides that, what training / Do / get is usually sponsored or taught by … you guessed it, the crappy food companies pet! They also tend to extort bribes from the companies to promote their products at their clinics (Science Diet, Royal Canin etc.) A good option is to go with a whole grain-free diet. Many of the high quality food now make grain-free formulas. Some good grain-free diet include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, variety of nature Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Canidae Grain Free All Life Stages, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now, go natural grain free, sold gold barking at the moon, Ziwipeak and taste of the jungle. Some foods pretty decent, even animals can be found in common shops. PetSmart carries Blue Buffalo products (such as the excellent grain free diet, Blue Wilderness). Petco carries Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Eagle Pack Holistic Select, Blue Buffalo, Castor and Pollux Organix, Pinnacle, and Halo. If you can not find a food, most food brands high quality dog have websites with search engines that help find aa store near you that supplies its products. Just type the name of the dog food brand in Google, go to your website and enter your zip code in the store locator. Another option, if you can not find anywhere that sells good food is to order your pet food online. This is an excellent place to do it: Remember that food http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/ should change gradually (mixing new slowly in with the old during the period of about a week or so), especially when switching to higher quality one, so that no stomach upset. For example, on 1 and 2: 75% old food, 25% new food Day 3 and 4: 50% old food, 50% new food Days 5 and 6: food age 25%, 75% new food Day 7: 0% old food, 100% new food Another option for feeding dogs is to feed ingredients. This is something that should be thoroughly researched before attempted: http://www.rawfed.com/ (RAWF) http://www.rawlearning.com/ Raw (Jane Anderson Learning Site) http://rawfeddogs.net/ (Raw Fed Dogs) http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ (Raw Meaty Bones) http://rawfed.com/myths/preymodel.html (Prey Model Raw Diet vs. BARF Diet) http://community.livejournal.com/rawdogs/profile/ (Raw Dog Livejournal Community, excellent information on raw power and profile page community generally useful for raw food issues) http://www.rawfed.com/myths/index.html (Myths about raw food) Also remember that freefeeding (leaving food down) is the fast track to obesity canine. Make sure you have scheduled feeding times loosely based on feeding patterns of feeding your dog. Adult dogs are usually fed with two meals a day.
