Flat Coated Retrievers
Flat Coated Retriever too extreme?

My family and I have a new dog, flat coated retrievers seem to be one of the best if not the best dogs to get. The reason I am concerned because I read this flat coated retrievers get separation anxiety and destroy things when people leave. My siblings and I go to school regularly and my parents are gone during the day and I wondered if the dog would do what I described earlier. I also heard they may be aggressive and sometimes attack people. Is this true? Thank you for your time.

Like any Retreiver or a laboratory, they are very intelligent and have a large store of energy and good bit of stamina. That's what makes them so good hunting and agility dogs. And a dog with that many smart features and much energy will become destructive if not properly engaged. Training and socialization can also help. But unless you can give this dog outlets that it needs for its energy I suggest you research on other breeds. But also, like the first poster I want to give you a high five for research on the breed first. Rather impressive that you'd have to say.
